"Lovers Leap"  When approaching Antequera this landmark is one of the first views that you will have.  The local legend  is about an impossible love affair between a young Christian man from Antequera and a beautiful Moorish girl from nearby Archidona, who were driven to the top of the cliff by the Moorish soldiers, where, rather than renounce their love, they decide to throw themselves into the abyss.  La Peña de los Enamorados  (880 metres high)

The Sierras above the pueblo are a real beauty spot and well worth visiting, either on foot or by car.  The limestone rock formation is something that should be experienced by everyone in their lifetime and the views are breath taking from the top.

The Peñon de Solis commands the motorway leading down from Las Pedrizas on its way to  Granada and will overlook the proposed new golf development "Valle del Rosario" The area  was originally inhabited by Romans, then there were Arabic and Visgoth settlements  by the river bank.  It is said that the important Roman city of Ulisis was situated here on the area  known as Peñon de Solis.  It is rumoured that treasure lies below the peak but no one has ever  found it.  Many Roman roads are still in existence, and a number of object including coins,  bracelets, glass and ceramic fragments, have been found in the area.

Location (Mellila)

Restaurante Megias in Estacion de Salinas is well known by the locals for its good cooking and on Sundays it is normally full.  Just around the corner is a Restaurant which has been converted from the original station, but still one can dine whilst the odd train rolls by.  This is a bit more upmarket to Restaurante Megias.  Hanging from the ceiling are the famous traditional "Serrano" hams, "Pata Negra" being the best and of course the most expensive.

This photo was taken in December 2005 when Rubens Barichello was testing the new Honda Racing F1.  Even though it was overcast Michelin still had to put out a couple of tankers every 10/12 laps to simulate wet conditions for the three teams testing there. McLaren Mercedes. Red Bull and Honda Racing.
