2nd
Practice (Friday afternoon)
Kimi Raikkonen
dominated the opening free practice this morning, Felipe Massa going straight
on at Rivage, across the gravel and making contact with the tyre wall,
leaving Lewis Hamilton half a second in arrears followed by Fernando Alonso.
This afternoon it was the Spaniard Fernando Alonso (1m46.654s) keeping
his promise, to concentrate on the sport - not the politics, that set the
fastest time and his team mate Lewis Hamilton (1m46.765s) was just over
a tenth of a second behind leaving his best lap in the last 5 minutes having
struggled to find a suitable set up during most of the 90 minute session,
a late slip at the revised final chicane possibly robbing him of the number
one spot. Felipe Massa (1m46.953s) bounced back to take third fastest
in front of Kimi Raikkonen (1m47.166s) unable to break the 1m47s barrier.
Today the Toyota's of Jarno Trulli (1m47.491s) and Ralf Schumacher (1m47.946s)
on form this afternoon taking fifth and sixth, the Italian nearly half
a second ahead of the German. Giancarlo Fisichella (1m48.224s) Mark
Webber (1m48.271s), and Robert Kubica (1m48.279s) and Heikki Kovalainen
(1m48.567s) completed the top ten.

* Engine
Change - drops 10 places on the grid
Making up for
last weekend Kimi Raikkonen took pole position confirming that this weekend
Ferrari appeared to be the superior package. Felipe Massa put in
a very strong challenge at the end of Q3 and at the end had to settle for
second place. Lewis Hamilton briefly moved up to second place in
the final shoot out demoting the Finn to third, such was the pace, but
in the end the rookie had to settle for fourth place behind his team mate
Fernando Alonso who had languished down in 10th place as he began his final
attempt following a mistake a Rivage on his first shot at a quick lap following
the fuel burn phase, but the World Champion kept calm, took on new rubber
and took third place. Robert Kubica put in a strong performance in
the knowledge that because of the engine change he would have to drop ten
places. Rosberg put in another strong showing and will be on row
three with Nick Heidfeld. Mark Webber`s team mistimed his final Q2
run and he missed out on a final run but he still made it to seventh fastest,
row four with Jarno Trulli once again showing his exceptional qualifying
sequence. Heikki Kovalainen and Giancarlo Fisichella make it an all
Renault row five.

Kimi Räikkönen
led from pole to take the chequered flag and his third victory at Spa.,
never putting a wheel wrong with Felipe Massa coming second, complaining
of handling problems until the first pit stop, rectified by the change
of tyres and a perfectly handling car on the soft tyres after the second
stop. The result give the Italian team their 15th constructors' world championship
title following the FIA´s Paris ruling in Paris on thursday.
Fernando Alonso despite the pressures of the last week, drove well, and
after a first lap duel that ran all the way from the lights to the top
of Eau Rouge with his team mate, held Lewis Hamilton behind him for the
rest of the race, the British driver appearing to loose his cool towards
the last few laps of the race. Nick Heidfeld took his traditional
place behind the top four after breaking clear of squabbling midfield pack
early on. The consistent Nico Rosberg took sixth ahead of Mark Webber
who must be considers as one of the contenders for "Driver of the day"
for his driving her this afternoon, ahead of Heikki Kovalainen who just
managed to hold of Robert Kubica. Other drivers of note were the
performance of Adrian Sutil during the first part of the race, breathing
down DC´s exhaust pipe and up to 12th, Takumo Sato in last
years Honda overtaking Jenson Button in this years car!
