This morning
it was test drivers Alex Wurz. Anthony Davidson and Robert Kubica setting
the fastest times in that order, although only 14 cars went out.
This afternoon it was Robert Kubica (BMW) that set the fastest time (1m21.082s)
which was over a second quicker than second man Giancarlo Fischichella
(1m22.294s) with Wurz (1m22.300s) and Davidson (1m22.310s). Jarno
Trulli (1m22.437s) who had bad luck at Monaco when a podium finish looked
almost certain was fifth and happy with the new chassis, hoping that his
fortunes will be reversed this weekend, ahead of Felipe Massa (1m22.476s)
- Fernando Alonso (1m22.603s) - Michael Schumacher (1m22.825s) - Mark Webber
(1m23.099s) and Rubens Barichello (1m23.104s) completing the top ten, once
again ahead of his struggling team mate Jenson Button (17th) the other
Brit DC a lowly 25th.
Button When
asked whether he could see himself fighting with Renault and Ferrari at
the front of the field, Button replied: “No, not this weekend.” “Renault
and Ferrari are very strong at the moment and I think McLaren are also,
so it’s very difficult." JPM scored his first victory as a McLaren
driver at last year’s British Grand Prix and is optimistic of more success
at a circuit he relishes and is confident for this weekend after a podium
a Monaco.“"TheMaggots-Becketts-Chapel sequence
at the start of the lap is awesome – you have to push really hard through
here, and so long as you have the good balance you need, and are changing
direction so quickly, hooking up the apexes, it is great fun!” “Ferrari
were very, very quick last week in Barcelona so they arrive as the favourites,”
Fernando Alonso told reporters at Silverstone on Thursday and sees them
as his main challenge and Michael Schumacher after the
Barcelona
testing is very optimistic “We managed to sort out the car really well,”
he posted on his website. |

* Engine
Change - drops 10 places on the grid
David Coulthard
appeals against Juan Pablo Montoya
First causualty
was Jarno Trulli, hoping for so much this weekend, a change of luck, but
it was not to be - engine problems. Could be a terminal problem requiring
an engine change,Also unfortunately in front of the home crowd was Jenson
Button., who was called into the weybridge during the first session and
as the team did not get him early it cost him getting into the next session.
In the first session it was Fernando Alonso was out first and dominated
the first and he continued in the same mode in the second, but in the last
it was Michael Schumacher that was dominate for all but the last lap of
the session. All cars came in to put new rubber on for their last
flying lap and it was Fernando Alonso that showed that he is worthy of
being World Champion, putting in the perfect lap to snatch pole from Michael
Schumacher, who was also put back to the second row by the flying Finn
who showed that the McLaren could be a force to be reckoned with tomorrow |

Fastest
lap (21) Fernando Alonso 1:21,599
Fernando Alonso
drove a perfectly judge race to take his third victory in a row.
Michael Schumacher and Kimi Räikkönen touched during the first
lap, but without incident as did Jacques Villenueve´s wing touching
and damaging Juan Pablo Montoya´s sidepod, the Colombian finishing
the race with a slight disadvange throught the race. On the first
lap Scott Speed clipped Ralf Schumacher putting him into a spin and taking
our Mark Webber "A racing incident" bringing the safety car out.
Jenson Button had stormed through the field and was lying 12th when on
the tenth lap the car gave up the ghost. Michael Schumacher managed
to leap frog Kimi Raikkonen on the second pit stop and Giancarlo Fischichella
having done the same on Felipe Massa was closing in
on Kimi during
the last few laps, but could not overtake the Finn. |
