* Engine Change - drops 10 places on the grid

An all Renault front row, a team´s dream come true.  Fernando Alonso had looked strong all afternoon throughout the three qualifying sessions and never looked to be challenged, except by his team mate Giancarlo Fisichella on the last lap.  In the second session Honda Racing seemed to be struggling but in the end they managed get into the final session, this weekend demoting the two Sauber BMW´s of local hero Jacques Villenueva and Nick Heidfeld.  Unhappy man this weekend was Mark Webber, who reckoned that his team mate Nico Rosberg cost him a place in the second session, and in view of Rosberg´s pace in the final session a place in that.  Happy man this afternoon was Jarno Trulli, as he said "in front of Michael Schumacher" he commented when being interviewed afterwards.  He hopes that at last his luck has changed this season and has just signed a 3 year contract to stay with Toyota.  Critics praise his qualifying pace but are always dubious about his race performance.  Lets us see if he can get on the podium tomorrow.

At least there were no incidents on the first corner, but Giancarlo Fishichella ruined his chances of a podium finish when he jumped the start, realising it took the appropriate action and let Kimi Räikkönen through who gave Fernando Alonso a hard time until the first pit stop, coming in one lap after the Spaniard.  The safety car was out within two laps of the race when the two Midland cars had a coming together and Kiki Rosberg
had a coming together with Juan Pablo Montoya when he cut into the Columbian, saying afterwards that he had not seen him, the Williams being a terminal victim of this incident.  A lap earlier Michael Schumacher had tried the same tactic on JPM and realising that it was imposible took to the grass.  Jarno Trulli´s Toyota as usual lacked race pace and was holding up Michael Schumacher, with Giancarlo Fishichella on his tail after his drive through penalty.  Kimi´s two pits stops were not the best allowing Fernando to take control of the race until with ten laps to go the the safety car was out again allowing the cars to close up together, reducing Fernando´s lead.  Jacques Villenueve, overtaking the slow Ralf Schumacer., complaining of handling problems throughtout the race, being off line got onto the "marbles" and was just a passenger in the BMW., hitting the wall hard.  Juan Pablo had hit the famous wall entering the pit straight earlier and had to retire for the third year running on this circuit.  Michael Schumacher also made the same mistake, but was able to continue, to finally snatch second place from Kimi Räikkönen who had fallen victim to the "marbles" at the hairpin.  David Coulthard drove a fine race to take the final points when he snatched eigth place on the final lap from Jenson Button, going down the inside line into a corner and probably was the driver of the day.  He commented afterwards that this had been his hardest race here due to the "marbles" and to some extent the handling of his car.  After qualifying yesterday he had had to have and engine change and subsequently started the race from the back of the grid
