Practice
In the first session it was Alex Wurz that showed the pace of the Williams Cosworth and in the second session this afternoon it was the turn of the Honda Racing test driver Anthony Davidson (1m35.041s) to set the fastest time despite going off at turn 14., loosing 15 minutes whilst the car had to be towed back to the pits. However second man Alex Wurz (1m35.388s) morning time remained the fastest, set in cooler conditions.  Fernando Alonso (1m35.806s) demonstrated his form in no uncertain way this afternoon to claim third fastest.  He missed practice this morning, came out halfway through the session and his second flying lap put him to the top of the charts.  Felipe Massa (1m35.924s) with a new engine completed 22 laps and was fourth fastest with Kimi Raikkonen (1m36.132s) fifth ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella (1m36.182s).  Michael Schumacher (1m36.617s) - Jenson Button (1m36.661s) - Jacques Villeneuve (1m37.045s) and Rubens Barichello (1m37.270s) completed the top ten fastest drivers, two test and eight race.  Toyota still have to show the form of winter testing with Jarno Trulli only 11th fastest (1m37.317s) and this weekend the McLaren gremlins struck at Juan Pablo Montoya., his car coming to a halt at the end of the pit lane forcing the Colombian to get out, grab a jack and drag the car back to his pit himself!  Later he suffered a spin and finished 14th
(1m37.463s)  Little wonder!

* Engine Change - drops 10 places on the grid

Renault and McLaren took the gamble and came out late during the last practice session and it paid of for Giancarlo Fisichella who hopefully will put his run of bad luck behind him this year and possibly even challange Fernando Alonso for the title.  Jenson Button still managed to take a front row position, but the sensation of the practice was Nico Rosberg ahead of his team mate Mark Webber who last year was known a a qualifing specialist.  They were split in times by one place but tomorrow they will be on the same row, thanks to Michael Schumacher having to start lower down the grid due to his engine change.  Ralf Schumacher had a huge engine blow out on the pit straight during the second session.  Ferrari engines accounted for the rest of the engine problems,  Felipe Massa (2) with Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard one each.  This must be worrying for Ferrari tomorrow.  The acoustic specialists in the pit lane were saying that it was a piston problem judged by the sound of the engine.  It is reckoned that the front runners are carrying less fuel than Juan Pablo Montoya.,
Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso., so the first pit stops tommorow are eagerly awaited to see if the pundits are correct.

Giancarlo Fisichella drove a perfect race leading from start to finish, apart from Jenson Button leading whilst he was in the pits for a lap.  Fernando Alonso, whose low grid position had been caused by a fuel error in qualifying (-2 seconds a lap) made a text book start into the first corner, taking advantage of the dueling Williams of Webber and Rosberg on his right, snatched 3rd place into the first corner.  Kimi Raikkonen´s bad luck continued and he was out on the first lap as was the other car involved Christian Klien, who had nudged him.  Nico Rosberg´s Cosworth let go (after 8 laps) and later Mark Webber retired 10 laps later.  David Coulthard retired (after 12 laps) when the hydraulics packed up only leaving 6th gear and despite the front suspension being repaired the other Red Bull Racing car of Christian Klien retired (after 28 laps).  Jenson Button had the pace of Renault, but it appears as if the chassis on the first few laps after a pit stop looses pace and on the second stop Fernando Alonso leapfrogged him and was prepared to challenge Giancarlo Fisichella, but prudence prevailed and Renault claimed their first one two since 1982.  Had Fernando Alonso not had the qualifying penalty the result could have been the reverse, but the Roman richly deserved it, and he dedicated his win to a friend that he lost a week ago.  His race engineer was on the podium to take the cup for Renault and this could be the first of several wins this season for Giancarlo.  Felipe Massa overtook team mate Michael Schumacher todwards the end of the race to take 5th place and during the last 2/3 laps. It was speculated as to whether "team orders" would be issued by Ferrari, but thankfully they were not, especially as there is a certain amount of controversy concerning their flexible front wing which give more downforce in a straight line. The Super Auguri team are doing well, especially in view of the fact that the chassis is the 2002 Arrows purchased from Minardi.  When the new chassis appears with its Honda engine and Takuma Sato in the seat, expect fireworks.  The rain held off (spotting at the start) which of course could have benefited Fernando Alonso and Juan Pablo Montoya who were long on fuel. - Fastest lap Fernando Alonso (lap 45) 1:34.803
