Many cancers arise due to defects in genes that normally suppress tumor
growth. Now, for the first time, MIT researchers have shown that re-activating
one of those genes in mice can cause tumors to shrink or disappear.
Andrea Ventura,
an MIT postdoctoral associate, works in the lab at the Center for Cancer
Research. He and his colleagues have shown that by reactivating a certain
gene, cancerous tumors in mice can be drastically reduced in size.

evidence that the tumor suppressor gene p53 is a promising target for human

romped home to victory in last night's live final of 'Celebrity Big Brother',
bringing to a close the most controversial series of the Channel 4 reality
show to date. Registering an unprecedented 63% of the total vote,
Shetty quashed the racist controversy that had dogged the series, stating
"I just want to thank Great Britain".
She said that
she forgave her tormentors, including former 'Big Brother' contestant Jade
Goody, former Miss Great Britain Danielle Lloyd and former S-Club singer
Jo O'Meara.
