Pre
race comment
Fernando
Alonso - "I will give my maximum for this second Grand Prix in
Spain."
Kimi
Raikkonen - "We have to start well at Valencia, where it’s more
important than in other places to drive with continuity from Friday on.
I hope I’ll have a trouble-free weekend to try to set up the car the best
way possible, especially for the qualifying lap. The qualifying will be
extremely important, although I think that there are some possibilities
on the track to overtake. If it’s hot that will help Ferrari,”
Heikki
Kovalainen - "The win doesn’t change too much, really: I still
believe I am improving and learning more about the team and the car at
each race. My aim for the last part of the season is to win more races
and to perform regularly at the front. It’s something I was able to do
from time to time in the first half of the year, but I now feel more confident
that I can be a consistent challenger in the remaining races, and I’m really
looking forward to that."
about
the new circuit
“It
looks pretty fast, to be honest. You get used to street circuits being
quite slow, with lots of slow- to medium-speed corners and very short straights,
but this is almost the opposite. There are a lot of fast kinks and esses,
a couple of decent straights and lots of high-speed stuff. It’s too early
to say yet whether there will be opportunities to overtake around here,
but there are a couple of hairpins where it might be possible."
Lewis
Hamilton - "I’m wary of making predictions – the race in Hungary
showed just how unpredictable Formula 1 can be, and that’s one of the reasons
why it’s such a fascinating sport. Clearly, though, I am still in a good
position to challenge for the world championship and that remains my aim.
We still feel confident about our chances – we know our rivals will be
strong, but we’ve worked hard to improve the car and are confident we’ll
be competitive this weekend.”
Robert
Kubica - “On a street circuit it is of major importance to have
a good basic set-up which is easy to drive. The lap time improvement has
to be gained step-by-step, you cannot drive in too wild a style. Also,
in terms of the racing line you have to approach this gradually. It is
very important to walk the track before driving it the first time to get
a feeling for the surface and the layout.”
